1. Why take the 8-Hour STOP Class?

• Dismiss a traffic citation received in Sarpy County.
• Do not go to court. Instead, complete the class any time between when you receive your ticket and no later than 7 days prior to the court date on your ticket.
• Do not pay the fine/court costs on your ticket. Instead, just pay for the class. Paying your ticket will result in your citation appearing on your driving record.
• No points will be assessed to your license.

3. How do I know if I’m eligible for the 8-Hour STOP Class?

Eligibility for the 8-Hour STOP Class includes persons who:

• Do not have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from any state
• Do not wish to contest their citation
• Have not taken the 8-Hour STOP class with this program within the last 5 years and are cited for one of the following:
  • Careless Driving. If involved in an accident, see 'What if I was cited for my involvement in an accident?'
  • Driving Around Railroad Crossing Arms
  • Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle
  • Passing a School Bus with a Crossing STOP Sign Extended
  • Speeding 11 to 20 miles per hour over the speed limit in construction or school zones
  • Speeding 21 to 25 miles per hour over the speed limit
  • Speeding 26  or more miles per hour over the speed limit - Prior to registering, you MUST obtain permission from the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office by calling 402-593-2230
  • Texting and Driving - Prior to registering, you must obtain permission from the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office by calling 402-593-2230

4. What if I have more than one violation or warning on my ticket?

Call the Sarpy County Safety Program at 402-593-1564 for assistance prior to registering for the STOP Class.

5. What if I was cited for my involvement in an accident?

Prior to registering for a STOP Class, you must call the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office at (402) 593-2230 to determine eligibility. If you register for a class and are not able to take the STOP Class, your class fee will not be refunded.

6. When is the class held?

Classes are held on Saturdays or Sundays, 2-4 times per month. Complete the class no later than 7 calendar days prior to the court date on your ticket. For assistance, contact the Sarpy County Safety Program (402) 593-1564.

7. Where is the class held?

Located at the southeast corner of 84th Street and Platteview Road, Papillion.

Directions

1. From 84th Street / Highway 370, travel south on 84th Street (approximately 2 to 3 miles)
2. Once you reach Platteview Road, do not turn left
3. 84th Street will begin to curve to the right
4. On that curve, turn left
5. Turn left onto the access road leading to the north parking lot
6. Enter Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office through the north door. The classroom is just inside

Office hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

When registering in person, bring the following:

• $140 cash, check, or credit/debit card
• Citation
• Driver’s License

If registering online or by phone, you will receive an email containing the following details about the class you selected: 

• Date and time of class
• Location and local driving directions to the class
• What to bring to class

9. After I complete the class, what happens to my citation?

• Tickets with one charge: On the next business day, your ticket will be dismissed. You do not need to call and check on your ticket. Do not pay your ticket, this could result in the ticket showing up on your driving record.
• Tickets with more than one charge: On the business day after your STOP Class, call the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office at 402-593-2230 to see if there are additional charges or fines. Failure to call the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office may result in your ticket being filed with Sarpy County Court, paying a $49 court cost fee and the fine for that violation(s).
• If you have been to court for your ticket: Your ticket has been filed with Sarpy County Court, and you owe $49 court costs. If you have not already paid your court costs, you may do so online through Nebraska Court Payments or contact Sarpy County Court at 402-593-2250 for more information.

10. What if there is a weather cancellation?

If a class is canceled due to deteriorating weather conditions, a cancellation notice will be posted on local television stations KETV, WOWT, and KMTV and/or their websites.
