To ensure you receive timely alerts and warnings during emergencies, we recommend you sign up for Sarpy County ALERTS, get a NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR), and familiarize yourself with the outdoor warning siren system, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), and the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Sarpy County ALERTS

Sarpy County ALERTS (powered by AlertSense/Konexus) is a free service, provided by the Sarpy County Emergency Management Agency, that sends emergency alerts, warnings, and other public safety related information to subscribers via email, text messages, voice calls, and push notifications through mobile applications. Outdoor Warning Siren System

The siren system warns those outdoors to immediately take shelter and then monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local media. The sirens are activated when a potentially life-threatening hazard is possible, imminent, or occurring. When activated, sirens will sound for three minutes. Sirens may be activated multiple times during an event. There is no "all-clear" siren. The sirens should not be relied upon to give sufficient warning indoors or in noisy areas. ***Please note, Gretna and Springfield activate sirens for fire calls between 8am and 6pm seven days a week. For fire calls, the siren produces a wail tone (alternates high/low sound). A steady tone is used for all other activations.


Tests of the outdoor warning siren system are conducted on the first Wednesday of the month at 11 a.m. from March through October. Tests may be delayed, postponed, or cancelled if temperatures are too cold or if severe weather is in the area. The sirens are not tested during the annual Statewide Tornado Drill which is held during Severe Weather Awareness Week.
