The Crash Response Unit (CRU) is the Sheriff's Office specialized unit, comprising of ten Deputies who have received certification in the field of Crash Reconstruction. These Deputies have attended, at minimum, 160 hours of additional training in Crash Investigation and Reconstruction. The Deputies assigned to the CRU are also members of the South Metro Crash Response Team (SMCRT), which comprises agencies in Sarpy, Douglas, and Cass Counties. The SMCRT responds to critical injury and fatality crashes that occur in the member agency's jurisdictions and assist in forensic diagramming and investigation. Since 2012, the CRU and SMCRT have responded to 200 critical injury and fatal crashes.
