The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office Crisis Negotiations Unit (CNU) is responsible for responding to high-risk incidents involving barricaded suspects, suicidal subjects, and hostage situations. Our focus is to maintain an open line of communication with the subjects involved in the situation and come to a successful resolution to the incident.
Members
The CNU consists of ten members. Each member is trained in crisis negotiations. Each member attends monthly training in order to maintain their level of preparedness. The members of the Crisis Negotiations Unit all perform specialized tasks during these incidents, including the following:
- Communicating effectively with other members of our office during the incident
- Communicating effectively with subjects involved in the incident
- Documenting information
- Gathering of intelligence
- Maintaining electronic equipment used by the CNU
